Walking On
Did you know it would go
Like snow in your hand,Needing the warmth, but
Succumbing to it in the end?
Did you think you could walk
The trestle of life
Without encountering a train,
To loosen the rails
A bit more –
Or knock you askew completely.
Did you hear the melodious
Chirp of the finches
And not know they were followed
Closely by the crows
Calling harshly,
Harbingers of ghostly energy
Though they are dark-winged carrion-eaters.
Realization comes with a
Glimpse of the after life
In the form
Of this one.
Take note,
For it is all you’ll get
To see
Just yet.
