The Lie of Life

 What is the point

When all’s said and done,
Of all the knowledge
In life, we have won.
What of the love
We have given and took,
What of the words
We have read in our books.
What of the tears
We have cried in our grief,
What of the trees
Who each year bear their leaf.
What is the point
At the end of the day
When everything dies
It just all goes away.
Why do we strive
For better and more,
Why do we keep
The wolves from the door?
It all ends at some point,
It’s all gone in a flash,
And what we’ve put in
Is swept away in the trash.
For everything lives,
And everything dies,
Everything here
Is really just lies.
